Eric Wallers was born in Turlock and grew up on a farm south east of Turlock. At 10 years old His family moved to Denair and are still there today. Eric's parents attended the Turlock Church of Christ, which was then on Canal Drive in Turlock, so he grew up in the church. He attended Turlock until his early 20's when he enlisted into the United States Air Force. Eric received much training at the hands of the men of the congregation to be able to lead songs, give lessons and other forms of formal speaking (announcements, public prayer, bible reading, etc.). He started leading songs early in his elementary school years (Lead Me To Some Soul Today was the first song) and gave short lessons once in a great while. He became part of the Turlock Youth Group (The youth program at the church) and shared the leadership roles with the other boys in the group.
When Eric enlisted in the Air Force, he was moved to Texas for basic training, Biloxi, Mississippi for technical training and Colorado Springs, Colorado was where he was stationed for the rest of his enlistment. While in the Air Force, Eric was away from the influence of his parents and all the families of the church that he grew up with and started examining his beliefs. This eventually lead him to choose to have these beliefs as his own. Not just because that was what he had been taught, but because that is what he believed to be true and what he discovered the bible to teach. Eric finished up his time in Colorado at the West Pikes Peak Church of Christ.
Eric spent close to 4 years in Colorado until his enlistment was up and he moved to Rosamond, California and worked on Edwards AFB as a civilian contractor. While living in Rosamond, he attended the Lancaster Church of Christ where he added to his previous experience a homiletics class taught through the Southern California School of Evangelism. Not only did Eric take on song leading duties, but also expanded to teaching the college age adult class and leading home family meeting groups. During this time he also started teaching computer training classes professionally, which dramatically enhanced his understanding of how to communicate to groups of people.
After 35 years of being a bachelor, Eric finally found his mate for life and married her. They both grew up in the same church and his wife had been good friends with Eric's sisters and family. The merging of families has been a wonderful experience. Both Eric and his wife feel that their In-Laws are wonderful.
After a few years of living in Lancaster, they moved back to the local area to be closer to family. Eric took a job as a network administrator for a local school district and eventually moved up to the county level. They choose not to resume attending the Turlock congregation because there already was a large base of talent there and they wanted to go to a church that could use their talents and keep them active serving the Lord. Waterford Church of Christ was perfect. They truly showed that they are Jesus' disciples by the love they showed to each other and the openness they showed Eric and his family. Eric moved the family to Waterford and started leading songs there, expanding to teaching the adult class and eventually to being one of the preachers giving sermons. Eric's usual sermon schedule is the last Sunday of the month, or as is sometimes called "Potluck Sunday" due to the potluck after evening worship on that Sunday.
Eric's hobbies go from computer games that he plays with most of his family and extended family members to Paintball, which there never is enough time to play.. He has a strong interest in music and likes to read science fiction/fantasy novels.
